My journey into the world of birds began during my college years when I volunteered for bird surveys. It was here that I became captivated by the kaleidoscope of colors and the intricate patterns adorning their plumage. What started as a simple fascination soon evolved into an insatiable curiosity, eventually shaping my career and passion for avian life.Seabirds, in particular, have always intrigued me—their remarkable adaptations, vast migrations, and their deep connection to the marine ecosystem.
As a dedicated marine ecologist, I earned my PhD in the Diversity and Distribution of Marine Birds in the Southwest Region of India as a DST-INSPIRE Fellow. My research is guided by a fundamental question: why do these magnificent seabirds choose specific habitats, and what ecological factors govern their presence? By unraveling the intricate relationships between seabirds and their environment, I aim to contribute valuable insights into marine ecosystem dynamics, ultimately aiding conservation efforts.
Beyond my focus on avian species, I am equally passionate about marine mammals and their interactions with marine habitats. I am honored to serve as a co-investigator in a research project funded by the Society of Marine Mammalogy, an opportunity that has further deepened my understanding of the challenges facing marine life. This research strengthens my commitment to studying and protecting marine biodiversity, reinforcing the urgency of conservation in an era of environmental change.
However, my aspirations extend beyond academic research. I firmly believe that science should not remain confined within laboratories. Through birdwatching initiatives, educational outreach, and conservation advocacy, I hope to instill in others the same sense of wonder that first drew me to birds and marine mammals.
My ultimate goal is to create a ripple effect of awareness and appreciation for the delicate balance of nature. By fostering curiosity and understanding, I aim to encourage collective action to protect our planet’s rich biodiversity—one bird, one marine mammal, and one inspired mind at a time.
