My journey with life in water began as a child, fishing in the pristine water bodies of my village, Venniyoor (near Venganoor), in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala.
Suvarna S. Devi, M.Sc, PhD. serving as a faculty in the Department of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, India.
With a strong background in the taxonomy and ecology of freshwater fish, crabs, and prawns. I pursued my PhD in invasion biology and am currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Aquatic Biology and Fisheries."
Experienced meiofauna taxonomist with a specialization in free-living nematodes, proficient in species identification, classification, and ecological analysis within meiofaunal communities.
DST-INSPIRE Fellow with a strong academic background and a deep passion for the ecology and ethology of marine life, particularly seabirds and marine mammals.
From a young age, my keen observation skills cultivated a profound interest in behavioural studies. Now my research journey extends to the field, where I have broadened my interest in field ecological studies and conservation behaviour.
The journey into the realm of research began during my postgraduate studies, where my passion for biodiversity and conservation took root. Through my research, I aim to shed light on the rich biodiversity of our region and promote sustainable practices.

Ever since I can remember I have been fascinated with nature and wildlife. Animal diversity, taxonomy and conservation are always havebeen a passion for me.
I am dedicated to researching intertidal ecosystems, focusing on the complex interactions and biodiversity within these unique habitats.
Currently working on the integrative taxonomy and systematics of invertebrates and vertebrates, documenting marine diversity through taxonomic surveys of different geographic areas and islands.
My passion with the science and art of taxonomy started during my Master’s in Aquatic Biology and Fisheries. I found batoids (Rays and Skates) as the most suitable one for my research as they are one of the most threatened groups of fishes in the Ocean.
I have started my research career in fish biology during 2011 and I gained experience in reproductive biology and conservationof fishes.
I was always mesmerised by the magnificent beauty of the sea. Reading about the mermaid stories in my child hood days, I always dreamt about the wonders underlying the ocean and that fascinated me.
Interest in taxonomy is generated in me because of my great teacher Dr. A. Bijukumar. His passion and dedication to research motivated me in my field of echinoderm taxonomy.
My interest in observing nature started at school vacations, when I used to go to my home village at Sasthamcotta. My dream to explore the life around was silently kept deep within as the schoolings were strict and time bounded.
Deepthi G.R. currently working as Assistant Professor in Zoology, Bishop Moore College, Mavelikara privileged to be as the first Ph.D. student under the guidance of Biju Sir.
